JANUARY (2024)
There are no in-house carving classes scheduled for January. The facility is closed on January 15, so there will be no meeting on that Monday.
FEBRUARY (2024)
During the month of February, Stewart Hodges will be leading a carving session on how to carve a Valentine Bear. Wood will be furnished at a nominal cost. Be sure and sign up for this class.
MARCH (2024) “MYSTERY CARVING EVENT”
During March, Stewart Hodges and Charles Griffin will be leading the group on a mystery carving session—Classes are scheduled on Mondays from 4-5:30 pm in the smaller room. Please sign up in advance and be prepared to pay a small fee for materials, if required…and, of course, bring your carving tools! There may even be a prize or two given out! Prizes given out at the General Business Meeting, April 8th. Competition is based mainly on originally—taking a blank shape of wood and generating an “original wood carving art piece.”

APRIL (2024) BEGINNERS PYROGRAPHY
Lynne Patrick will be conducting a month long session for those wishing to learn more about pyrography. From a small beginner plaque (Left photo) to a more advanced plaque (Right photo), pyrography can become fine art. Sign up today for the class—only a limited number of students can be accommodated. Tools and supplies will be available for use. However, if you have a burner, please bring it.
MAY: “Carving Christmas "Ornaments” with Will Crawford and Sheila Hunter
During May, Will and Sheila will be offering a variety of Christmas ornament patterns to carve. Classes are scheduled on Mondays from 4-5:30 in the smaller room adjacent to our regular carving room. Please sign up in advance and be prepared to choose a design! It is a good time to make an ornament for the Cancer Center project at Novant Health, and one for yourself.
JUNE: “Carving from a Roughout”
During the month of June, Charles and Stewart will be offering classes on carving from a rough out. This will be geared to the more experienced carver (not recommended for new carvers) and limited to 10 students. The specific carving will be a 7” Gnome named “TWEED.” Cost for the rough out and wood to carve the stick match (paint not included) will be around $15-$20 (depending on shipping costs). Stay tuned for specifics!
In addition to the basswood rough out, each participant will receive written carving instructions, a color picture containing four views of the completed Gnome, and painting details.
Sessions will be from 4:00-5:30 pm in the smaller room adjacent to our regular carving room. [NOTE: There will be no meeting on June 24 because that’s when the Club Picnic is scheduled]

JULY: “Wood Ducks” with Jim Carpenter
During the month of July, Jim will be offering a class on how to carve and paint Wood Duck Decoys made from golf clubs. The estimated cost of this class is $22 for materials. Please stay tuned for more information.

AUGUST: “Angel Wings” with Carol Mock
Sign up and learn how to carve these beautiful angel wings during August. Classes start at 4:00 pm on Mondays in room #2 and are over at 5:30 pm.
SEPTEMBER: “Santa Ornaments” with Tom Mock
OCTOBER: “Porcupine Toothpick Holder” with Tim Trudgeon
Please sign up for this unique pattern for a toothpick holder. Classes start at 4:00 and end at 5:30. The expected charge for this class will be $5 for the wood provided. Please also expect to use carving tools (knives and gouges), sandpaper, carving glove and thumbguard, boiled lindseed oil, paint supplies and/or woodburner.
